Hampton's first priority is academic work: boys are normally expected to take at least ten GCSE subjects and four A levels with one AS, and to do well in them. The school therefore welcomes able boys who will enjoy and profit from an intellectually demanding course in which, for example, the three basic sciences are taught separately and pupils are encouraged to study at least two languages to a reasonable level of proficiency. The arts - music, drama, painting - are important elements within the curriculum, as is design technology.
Hampton also offers a broader educational experience through its wide variety of sports and societies, many of which achieve the highest standards - for instance, in the Music Society's choral and orchestral concerts or the Rugby Club and Boat Club's international successes. All boys are urged to take a committed interest in at least one such activity.
The school has first class facilities for its academic and extra-curricular work: standing in its own grounds of 26 acres, its buildings have been greatly extended and improved during the past ten years.
Hampton's pupils come from many different backgrounds, many of them with the help of the Government Assisted Places or the School's own awards. It is the School's policy to integrate all its members into a humane community, tolerant but ordered, where they can develop their abilities and personalities to the full.
